Right now, a survey is available that focuses on slide elements to be added to the shallow children's area of the Outdoor Aquatic Center during Phase 2 of the Renovation Project. Choose from four adorable under-the-sea themed slide elements courtesy of Water Odyssey.
This survey will launch this Thursday, June 11, during Adult Swim Night: Soccer Splash! at the Outdoor Aquatic Center from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and will be open through June 30. Can't make it to Adult Swim Night? No problem! Take the survey here.
It’s been nearly thirty years since the Outdoor Aquatic Center in Lawrence last saw a renovation! Now, the City is working on plans that improve the structure and functionality of our beloved Outdoor Aquatic Center.
In October 2024, the City Commission directed staff to rehabilitate the pool by maintaining existing open water and separating the shallow-depth/zero-depth area from the main pool and installing separate filters.
The project will bring long-needed updates to the facility, including repairs to aging infrastructure, improvements to pool functionality, and enhancements that will help the space better serve the community for years to come.
The project timeline:
Phase 1 (happening now): Early work is already underway and on schedule. This phase includes demolition in the bathroom and admissions areas, setting the stage for key upgrades to those spaces.
Phase 2 (beginning fall 2026): The next phase will focus on improvements to the pool itself and the surrounding aquatics features. This work remains on track for completion by Spring 2027, before the 2027 swim season.
What You’ll See This Season (2026):
When you visit the pool this year, you’ll start to notice some improvements, including:
A new admissions entry
Updated bathrooms and changing rooms
A refreshed party room with new flooring and paint
Repairs to the building exterior
Construction will continue in a way that keeps the pool open during the summer months, so residents can still cool off and enjoy the Outdoor Aquatic Center while improvements are underway.
